Events happen around Holden, new characters are introduced, he interacts with them and then they disappear never to be relevent again. The book itself is a piece of literary trash as well. If I met a person like that in real life I would stay the fuck away from them, and I believe most kids our age would as well. And while everyone in the class nodded along in agreement I don't think anyone actually related. To add to that our teacher insisted that this is very relatable to teenagers and thst the book perfectly encapsulates this faze of life.

He is the archetype of the worst kind of teenager imaginable, rebellious, bratty, ungrateful and just an all around dick hole. He curses constantly, so much in fact that it just becomes annoying to read. All he does is complain about how everyone around him is as dumb as a rock and how no one understands him. He's whiny and edgy (for the 50s) and every single decision he makes throughout the book is wrong in some way. This was the only book that has made me actually angry.įor starters, Holden Caulfield is the most unlikable protagonist I have ever seen. I read this book as part of my literature class last year and I hated every second of it.
